A two-vehicle crash in southwest Emporia on Tuesday afternoon resulted in one person being taken to the hospital and temporarily disrupted traffic along US Highway 50.
Emergency responders from the Emporia Fire Department, Emporia EMS, and Emporia Police were dispatched to the scene around 1:50 p.m. following reports of a collision at the intersection of US-50 and Anderson Street.
Sequence of the Incident
The crash involved a minivan and a passenger car, though officials have not yet released the makes and models of the vehicles.
According to early reports, the minivan was exiting the Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply parking lot, attempting to turn west onto US-50. At the same moment, the passenger vehicle was heading eastbound, resulting in a collision.
The front end of the passenger car struck the rear driver’s side of the minivan, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The impact left the minivan’s driver trapped inside, requiring emergency crews to perform an extrication.
Injuries and Medical Response
Following the rescue, the driver of the minivan was transported to Newman Regional Health with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the passenger car was evaluated at the scene and opted not to receive any further medical care. Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of those involved.
Traffic Disruption and Vehicle Removal
Due to the crash, both lanes of traffic on US Highway 50 were narrowed to a single lane for approximately 30 minutes, causing brief congestion in the area.
Both damaged vehicles were towed away after the initial response and clearance efforts.
