A 25-year-old man is now facing a series of serious criminal charges in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in west Wichita. The charges stem from a violent domestic incident that unfolded on Thursday, July 17, in the 6800 block of West Par Lane.
Victim Identified and Second Woman Injured
When Wichita Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 27-year-old Sinay Leon-Montoya, a Wichita resident, inside an apartment with multiple stab wounds.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
A second 25-year-old woman was also found outside the apartment suffering from stab wounds. Authorities confirmed that children were present during the violent altercation, which they have identified as a domestic dispute.
Suspect in Custody: Charges Filed
Following the incident, police apprehended Edward Millan-Volcan, age 25, in connection with the attacks. On Tuesday, he was formally charged in Sedgwick County Court with a range of serious offenses, including:
- First-degree murder
- Attempted first-degree murder
- Three counts of aggravated kidnapping
- Two counts of aggravated endangering a child
- Criminal threat
- Battery
These charges reflect both the lethality of the attack and the risk posed to the children who were reportedly at the scene.
High Bail and Upcoming Court Date
A judge has set Millan-Volcan’s bond at $2 million, highlighting the gravity of the accusations. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 8, where more details about the incident may be revealed as the legal process unfolds.
