A late-night crash on the Kansas Turnpike (I-335) in Lyon County left one person hospitalized on Tuesday night, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP).
The two-vehicle rollover accident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m., about four miles north of the Admire exit on northbound I-335.
Collision Details
Authorities reported that a 2008 Lexus LS460 collided with the rear of a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer, forcing both vehicles off the roadway and into a ditch.
The impact caused the Trailblazer to overturn at least once, ultimately resting on its driver’s side.
Injuries and Hospitalization
The Trailblazer’s driver, identified as 19-year-old Elizabeth Mannel of Liberal, suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken to Newman Regional Hospital in Emporia for treatment.
Officials confirmed that Mannel was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, which likely minimized the extent of her injuries.
The Lexus driver, 46-year-old Chester Wood of Kansas City, Missouri, sustained possible injuries but was not transported to a hospital. The Kansas Highway Patrol also noted that Wood was wearing his seat belt during the collision.
Additional Information
According to investigators, both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles when the crash occurred. The KHP continues to review the incident for further details regarding what led to the rear-end collision.
