Authorities have identified the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle along West Dodge Road on Friday night.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 36-year-old Cheri Blue of Emporia, Kansas. The fatal collision remains under investigation, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Collision Reported Late Friday Night
The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Friday, June 19, near the intersection of North 237th Street and West Dodge Road in Douglas County, Nebraska.
Emergency personnel were sent to the area following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they located Blue and began performing life-saving measures.
Medical personnel later reached the scene and continued the emergency response. Despite those efforts, Blue could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the location.
Officials have not released additional information about the vehicle involved or the person driving it. It also remains unclear whether any citations or charges are being considered in connection with the collision.
Victim Had Been Travelling in Parked Toyota
According to information released by investigators, Blue had been travelling in a grey Toyota with two other people before the fatal incident.
The Toyota was reportedly stopped on the shoulder of the westbound side of West Dodge Road. Authorities believe Blue got out of the vehicle while it was parked.
Investigators said she may have been involved in an argument with another person after leaving the Toyota. At some point during the incident, Blue entered an active traffic lane, where she was struck by a passing vehicle.
Authorities have not publicly identified the other two people who were travelling in the Toyota. Details about the reported disagreement, including what may have caused it, have also not been disclosed.
Because the investigation is continuing, the sequence of events described by authorities remains preliminary and could be updated as additional evidence becomes available.
Investigation Remains Active
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is working to establish the complete circumstances surrounding Blue’s death.
Investigators may examine physical evidence from the roadway, statements from those present and any available surveillance or vehicle-camera footage. Witness accounts could also help authorities determine exactly how Blue entered the road and what happened immediately before the impact.
No information has been released about whether the driver remained at the scene. Authorities have also not disclosed whether speed, visibility, impairment or other factors are suspected of contributing to the collision.
Officials have not announced any arrests in connection with the case.
Witnesses Asked to Contact Authorities
The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who saw the collision or observed activity near the grey Toyota before Blue was struck to contact investigators.
Even details that initially appear unimportant could help authorities develop a clearer timeline. Drivers who travelled through the area around 10:20 p.m. on Friday are encouraged to check whether their dashboard cameras recorded relevant footage.
Witnesses can contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office online or call its non-emergency number at 402-444-6000.
Cheri Blue’s death remains under investigation as authorities work to determine how she entered the traffic lane and what occurred before the fatal collision.
Deputies and medical personnel attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are now relying on evidence and potential witnesses to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
