PT Organics Limited has voluntarily recalled certain Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit purée pouches after discovering a packaging issue that could leave soft, food-grade plastic strands inside the products.
The recalled pouches were distributed nationwide through Target, Kroger and Meijer stores.
FDA Announces Voluntary Recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall on Tuesday. It applies only to selected 4-ounce, or 113-gram, Banana & Strawberry fruit purée pouches sold between March 6 and July 13.
PT Organics, based in Lake Oswego, Oregon, confirmed that no injuries or illnesses have been reported. Other Pumpkin Tree products, flavors and best-by dates are not included in the recall.
Packaging Supplier Identified the Defect
The company began the recall after its packaging supplier withdrew a defective production batch of pouches.
Inspections of completed products later found that some packages contained a strand of soft, food-safe plastic attached to the inside surface. PT Organics emphasized that the issue originated from the pouch packaging and not from the fruit purée itself.
