Authorities are asking for the public’s help after a child riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle Sunday evening in Augusta.

The Augusta Department of Public Safety said the incident happened at around 7:10 p.m. in the 2400 block of Mainsgate, near Ewalt Elementary School. According to officials, the child was riding a bike in the area when a passing vehicle hit them.

The child suffered minor injuries in the crash. Officials have not released the child’s name, age or additional medical details.

Investigators said the driver stopped briefly after the collision but did not remain at the scene and did not report the accident.

Crash Happened Near Ewalt Elementary School

The reported hit-and-run occurred on Mainsgate, close to Ewalt Elementary School.

Because the crash involved a child on a bicycle near a school area, officials are treating the incident seriously and are working to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
