One man was killed and five other people were injured after gunfire erupted late Friday night near 19th Street and The Paseo in Kansas City, Missouri.
Police said officers were already in the area of 18th Street and The Paseo shortly before 10:30 p.m. when they heard gunshots coming from the east. Officers quickly moved toward the sound of gunfire and responded to the area of 19th Street between The Paseo and Vine Street.
When they arrived, they found three people who had been shot.
Three Victims Found At Scene
According to police, two adult women were found awake and alert when officers reached the scene. Both were taken to a hospital by emergency medical crews.
One of the women suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The other woman was seriously injured.
An adult man was also found unresponsive at the scene. Paramedics pronounced him dead before he could be taken to a hospital.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s name, pending notification of his family.
More Victims Arrive At Hospitals
As detectives began investigating, police learned that three more victims had arrived at local hospitals in private vehicles.
Those victims included an adult woman and an adult man who were listed in stable condition. A second adult man was reported to be in critical condition.
In total, six people were shot in the incident. One died, while five others were injured.
Multiple Shooters Believed To Be Involved
Early information suggests a group of people had gathered along 19th Street when multiple people began firing weapons in different directions.
Police said all six victims appear to have been standing in the area when they were struck by gunfire.
Investigators have not said what led to the shooting or whether the victims were targeted. They also have not released details about how many shooters may have been involved.
No Arrests Announced
As of the latest update, no arrests had been made.
Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting. Officers are expected to review evidence from the scene, speak with witnesses and check for any nearby surveillance video that may help identify those responsible.
Police have not announced any suspect descriptions.
