Two Men Killed In Late-Night Road Shooting As Police Search For Answers

Authorities said officers were called to the area of Mercier and Westport Road, where they later found two men unresponsive inside a nearby business.

Late-Night Shooting Leaves Two Men Dead

The Kansas City Police Department said officers arrived in the area after receiving reports of a shooting. Once at the scene, officers entered a nearby business and found two men suffering from apparent injuries.

Police said officers immediately began rendering medical aid while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. First responders later confirmed that one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene.

That victim was identified as Rickey Cal, 24.

The second man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Police later reported that he died at the hospital the following morning.

Second Victim Died At Hospital

According to police, the second victim was identified as Jeron Jackson, 28. Hospital staff pronounced him dead shortly after 7:25 a.m. on Sunday.

The deaths of both men turned the case into a double homicide investigation. Officers and homicide detectives remained focused on gathering evidence and speaking with people who may have seen or heard what happened before the shooting.

As of Sunday morning, police said no one had been taken into custody.

Detectives Gather Evidence And Witness Statements

Homicide detectives began collecting evidence from the area and taking witness statements after the late-night shooting. Police have not released details about what may have led to the gunfire.

Investigators have also not said whether the victims were inside the business when the shooting happened or whether they entered the location after being injured.

Based on the information released, officers found both men unresponsive inside a nearby business after responding to the shooting call.

No Suspect In Custody
