Missouri Sees Decline in Deer Harvest During Alternative Methods Season

Conservation officials in Missouri have reported a noticeable decrease in the number of deer harvested during the alternative methods portion of the firearms hunting season compared to the previous year.

Harvest Totals Announced

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, hunters in the Show-Me State harvested 10,071 deer during the alternative methods season, which spanned from December 28 to January 7. This total includes:

  • 2,765 antlered bucks
  • 1,072 button bucks
  • 6,234 does

The highest numbers of deer were taken in Franklin County (223), Pike County (209), and Macon County (207).

Comparison to Last Season

Officials noted that this year’s harvest is 2,425 fewer deer than those recorded during the same part of the season last year. Conservationists attribute the decline to various factors, which may include changes in weather, hunting conditions, or population trends.

Upcoming Opportunities for Hunters

Although the alternative methods season has concluded, deer hunting is not over. The archery season will continue until January 15, providing hunters with additional opportunities to harvest deer.
