Authorities are asking for the public’s help after a woman was severely injured during an altercation Saturday evening, leaving her with serious facial injuries and requiring transfer to a trauma center.
The Lawrence Kansas Police Department said officers responded just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, to the area of 10th and New Jersey streets in Lawrence, Kansas. Police said the woman had been beaten and allegedly kicked in the face multiple times.
Officers Find Woman Seriously Injured
When officers arrived, they found the woman lying on her back. According to police, she was unable to move or communicate clearly.
Authorities said the woman had purple, swollen eyes that were shut, and she was bleeding from her head and mouth. Despite her condition, police said she was able to identify the suspect.
Due to the seriousness of her injuries, the woman was later transferred to an area trauma center. Police said she suffered several facial bone fractures.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
After speaking with the victim and gathering initial information, officers learned the suspect had gone to a home near 10th and New York streets.
Police said when one officer approached the house, the suspect ran out another door. A second officer was already positioned nearby and safely took the suspect into custody.
The suspect, identified by police as a woman, was interviewed by investigators and later booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility.
Police have not released the suspect’s name in the information provided. Officials also did not immediately list the specific charges she may face.
Argument Reportedly Began Inside Vehicle
Investigators said the victim and suspect knew each other before the incident.
According to police, detectives learned the two women had been inside a vehicle with another woman and a man when an argument began. The disagreement reportedly continued after the two women got out of the vehicle.
Police said the man and woman who remained in the car then drove away.
Authorities now want to speak with those two individuals, believing they may have important information about what happened before and during the assault.

Investigators are working to build a clearer timeline of the altercation and determine what led to the violent assault.
