PROGRESS 2025: Emporia Sertoma Club Celebrates a Century of Community Service

The Emporia Sertoma Club, established on January 23, 1925, by twenty visionary businessmen at the Broadview Hotel (now Broadview Towers), has been a cornerstone of community service in Emporia, Kansas. As the club approaches its centennial in 2025, it stands as the third oldest continuous chapter in the Kansas District, following the Manhattan and Topeka Evening Clubs.

Origins and Evolution

Initially founded as the Co-Operative Club, the organization was part of a broader movement that began in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1912. The name “Sertoma,” an acronym for “SERvice TO MAnkind,” was adopted in 1950 to better reflect the club’s mission.

Sertoma International: A Brief Overview

Sertoma International, the parent organization, focuses on improving the quality of life for those at risk or impacted by hearing loss through education and support. With clubs across North America, Sertoma has been dedicated to community service for over a century.
