Wichita Man Arrested After Police Chase Through Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. — A 38-year-old Wichita resident was taken into custody after a police pursuit that started near a Dollar General store in Emporia, authorities confirmed.

Pursuit Begins After Reports of Intoxicated Driver

The Emporia Police Department (EPD) said it was alerted by the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) about a suspected intoxicated driver, later identified as Brandon E. Mangus, 38, of Wichita.

Mangus was reportedly operating a white Chevrolet Tahoe with temporary tags when officers were called to locate him.

Police located the vehicle at the Dollar General on 1202 E. 12th Avenue in Emporia. When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop as Mangus exited the store’s parking lot, he refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit.

High-Speed Chase Across Emporia and Lyon County

According to officials, the chase traveled through northeast and east-central Emporia, heading north on Highway 99 into Lyon County.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deployed stop sticks, successfully puncturing all four tires of the suspect’s SUV.

Authorities emphasized that the pursuit ended safely, with no injuries or major damage reported.

After the chase ended, Mangus was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail. He faces several serious charges, including:
