A 29-year-old man died following a two-vehicle collision that ended with his car leaving the highway, becoming airborne and overturning.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, along southbound Interstate 35 in Johnson County. The location was about six-tenths of a mile south of 119th Street in Olathe, Kansas.
Cadillac Rear-Ended Toyota on Interstate 35
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles were travelling south in the same lane shortly before the collision.
Investigators said a 2008 Cadillac DTS was driving behind a 2021 Toyota Camry when the Cadillac struck the rear bumper and trunk area of the Toyota with its front end.
The initial impact caused the Cadillac to bounce away from the Toyota before crashing into the outside concrete barrier wall.
The Toyota remained involved in the collision, but the Cadillac continued moving along the highway shoulder after the first impact.
Vehicle Struck Barrier Several Times
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the Cadillac travelled down the shoulder while intermittently striking the outside barrier wall.
The vehicle eventually left the paved shoulder and entered a grassy area. It then travelled over a small hill, became airborne and rolled.
The Cadillac came to rest upside down on its roof. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but the driver suffered fatal injuries.
Authorities identified him as Isaiah M. Foster, 29, of Olathe. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The patrol’s crash report indicated that Foster was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred. His next of kin was notified later that afternoon.
Second Driver Sustained Minor Injuries
The Toyota was driven by Jose A. Monterrosa, 40, of Blue Springs, Missouri.
Monterrosa was reported to have sustained suspected minor injuries. However, the patrol’s report did not list a hospital or indicate that he had been transported from the scene by ambulance.
Authorities said Monterrosa was wearing a seat belt. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles when the crash occurred, and no passengers were reported.
The Kansas Highway Patrol classified the collision as a fatality. Officials confirmed that it was not considered a hit-and-run and did not involve a police pursuit.
Investigation Into Crash Continues
The official crash narrative describes the movement of both vehicles and the Cadillac’s rollover. However, it does not identify what caused Foster’s car to strike the Toyota.
Authorities have not disclosed whether speed, distraction, impairment, road conditions or a mechanical issue may have contributed to the collision.
Investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence and any available camera footage while determining the complete sequence of events.
Traffic crashes involving rear-end contact can become especially dangerous at interstate speeds. A vehicle that enters a shoulder or repeatedly strikes a barrier can become difficult for its driver to control.
The crash also highlights the importance of seat belt use. Safety restraints cannot prevent every fatality, but they can reduce the likelihood of occupants being thrown around or ejected during a rollover.
Isaiah M. Foster died after his Cadillac rear-ended a Toyota, struck a barrier repeatedly and overturned along Interstate 35. The Toyota’s driver sustained suspected minor injuries.
The precise reason for the initial collision has not been released, and the Kansas Highway Patrol’s investigation remains the primary official account of the incident.
