Man Charged With Drug Trafficking And Firearms Offenses

A North Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged in federal court with drug trafficking and firearms offenses after investigators said he distributed methamphetamine and cocaine over several weeks.

Federal prosecutors said Danny D. Garrett Jr., 46, appeared in court on a nine-count criminal complaint. The charges include distribution and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of firearms by a felon.

Authorities said the charges stem from an investigation involving alleged drug distribution between May and June 2026.

Federal Complaint Details Alleged Drug Distribution

According to court documents, Garrett allegedly distributed methamphetamine and cocaine on multiple occasions from May through June 2026.

Investigators said the case later led law enforcement officers to obtain and serve a federal search warrant at Garrett’s apartment on June 24, 2026.

During that search, officers reported seizing a large quantity of illegal drugs and multiple firearms.

Drugs And Firearms Seized During Search

Federal authorities said investigators recovered approximately 4.42 kilograms of methamphetamine and 323 grams of cocaine from Garrett’s apartment.

Law enforcement also seized three firearms during the search, according to court documents.

The firearm-related charges are tied to allegations that the weapons were connected to drug trafficking activity and that Garrett was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior felony conviction.

Officials did not release additional details about the specific type of firearms recovered or whether any other people were present during the search.

Agencies Involved In Investigation

The case was investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department.

Authorities said the investigation also received assistance from the North Kansas City Police Department and the Olathe Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kelly Collins and Heather Siegele.

Charges Are Accusations

Federal prosecutors emphasized that the charges in the complaint are accusations and are not evidence of guilt.

Under the legal process, evidence supporting the charges must be presented in court. A federal trial jury would be responsible for determining guilt or innocence if the case proceeds to trial.

Garrett will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations through the court system.

Case Connected To Homeland Security Task Force Initiative

Officials said the prosecution is part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative.

The task force is described as a whole-of-government law enforcement partnership focused on investigating and prosecuting criminal organizations, including cartels, foreign gangs, transnational criminal groups, and human smuggling and trafficking networks.

The Kansas City task force includes agents and officers from several federal agencies, including the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ATF, DEA, the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and IRS Criminal Investigation.

The prosecution is being led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri.
