Murder Suspect Arrested By U.S. Marshals After Fatal Shooting

U.S. Marshals have arrested a man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that happened earlier this year in Wichita, Kansas.

Authorities confirmed that Letron Wesley-Osayande was taken into custody in Topeka by members of the U.S. Marshals Service. He was wanted on a warrant for first-degree murder issued on April 20.

The arrest is connected to the killing of 37-year-old William Johnson, who was shot on April 11 in the 6300 block of West Kellogg in Wichita.

Suspect Wanted In Fatal Shooting Case

According to authorities, Wesley-Osayande is suspected of shooting and killing Johnson during the April incident.

Police said Johnson suffered critical injuries at the scene. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A second person, a 54-year-old man, was also injured in the shooting. Police said he was treated at a hospital for serious injuries and was later released.

Investigators have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting or whether the suspect and victims knew each other.

Arrest Made In Topeka

The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that Wesley-Osayande was located and arrested in Topeka.

After his arrest, he was booked into the Shawnee County Jail. Wichita police said he is expected to be transferred back to Sedgwick County, where he will face charges connected to the murder case.

Authorities did not immediately release details about where in Topeka the arrest happened or whether Wesley-Osayande was taken into custody without incident.

Case To Return To Sedgwick County

Wesley-Osayande’s transfer to Sedgwick County will allow the case to move forward through the local court system.

The first-degree murder warrant was issued nine days after the fatal shooting. Once transferred, he is expected to face formal proceedings related to Johnson’s death and the injuries suffered by the second victim.

Officials have not said whether additional charges may be filed.

Victim Remembered As Investigation Continues

William Johnson’s death remains part of an active homicide investigation. Police have released limited information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident left one man dead and another seriously injured, prompting investigators to search for Wesley-Osayande in the weeks after the case.
