Radio traffic from Tuesday evening shows how quickly a series of highway shootings unfolded in Kansas City, Missouri, leaving one person dead and four others injured.
Authorities said the shootings happened in rapid succession over less than 30 minutes, with reports coming in from several locations along Interstate 70, Interstate 670 and nearby roads.
Police continued searching Thursday for 22-year-old Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, who is wanted in connection with the shootings. Authorities have warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Shootings Reported At Several Locations
Police said the incidents occurred at I-670 and Wyoming Street, I-70 and Paseo Boulevard, I-70 and Prospect Avenue, and Truman Road and Hardesty Avenue.
A man who died after his vehicle crashed near Truman Road and Bennington Avenue is also believed to have been shot by the same suspect, according to Kansas City police spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina.
Investigators believe the shootings moved from west to east, but the exact timing of each incident remains under review because not all victims reported the shootings immediately.
First Dispatch Came In Around 6:21 P.M.
Audio captured by Broadcastify.com showed the Kansas City Fire Department sending crews to a reported shooting at about 6:21 p.m. Tuesday.
The dispatch directed emergency units to eastbound I-70 near Brooklyn Avenue and told them to stage for police.
Only minutes later, another report came in for a separate shooting at I-70 and Paseo Boulevard. Dispatchers described the second incident as involving a silver car and sent additional emergency crews to the area.
Crash And More Gunfire Followed
Soon after the highway shooting calls, emergency radio traffic captured a report of a crash outside Fire Station 27 at 6600 East Truman Road.
A dispatcher then sent crews to the scene of a motor vehicle accident near the station. Within about a minute, another call directed emergency responders to Truman Road and Hardesty Avenue for another reported shooting.
The sequence of calls showed how quickly the incidents escalated across multiple locations.
Uber Driver Among Those Injured
One of the injured victims was an Uber driver who had been taking fans to Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium for a World Cup match Tuesday evening.
Police confirmed Wednesday that the Uber driver was among the shooting victims. The shootings happened about eight miles from the stadium, which is hosting several World Cup matches.
Authorities have said they do not believe the shootings were connected to the World Cup event itself.
Search For Suspect Continues
Police across the Kansas City metro area continued searching for Sanchez-Munoz after two standoffs failed to locate him.
One standoff happened Tuesday, and another continued overnight into Wednesday morning. Despite the large police response, officers did not find the suspect.
Becchina said officers and detectives are using all available investigative resources, including partnerships with local, state and federal agencies.
Public Asked To Share Tips
Police are urging anyone with information about Sanchez-Munoz’s whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately.
Authorities have received some tips from the public, but the search remains active. Officials are warning residents not to approach the suspect if they see him.
Instead, anyone who spots him or has information should call 911 or contact police.
The dispatch audio from Tuesday evening shows a frightening timeline of highway shootings that unfolded across Kansas City, Missouri, in less than half an hour.
The incidents left one person dead and four others injured, including an Uber driver transporting fans to a World Cup match.
