A lieutenant with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday evening after authorities said a warrant had been issued in connection with an ongoing investigation.
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, agents coordinated the surrender and arrest of Larry D. Myer, 63, of Lancaster, Kansas, on June 25 at around 6:30 p.m. The arrest took place at the Jackson County Jail.
The KBI said Myer was wanted on misdemeanor charges of intimidation of a witness or victim and harassment by telecommunication device. After being taken into custody, he was later released on bond.
Officials have not announced any additional charges at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
KBI Says Investigation Began After Alleged Threats
The case dates back to January 2026, when the Kickapoo Tribal Police Department requested assistance from the KBI. According to investigators, the request involved alleged threats and harassment directed toward a tribal officer.
The KBI said the allegations were connected to a traffic violation issued to Myer in December 2025. The tribal officer had reportedly ticketed Myer, and investigators later began reviewing claims that the officer was threatened and harassed afterward.
Because Myer serves as a law enforcement officer with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, the matter was referred for outside review. The KBI handled the investigation to avoid potential conflicts and to ensure the case was examined independently.
Special Prosecutor Reviewed Findings
After investigators gathered information, the findings were presented to a special prosecutor from the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office. According to the KBI, the special prosecutor was appointed by Brown County to review the case.
Following that review, a warrant was issued for Myer’s arrest. Authorities said the charges filed against him are both misdemeanors.
The KBI did not release further details about the nature of the alleged messages or communications involved in the harassment charge. Officials also did not say whether Myer remains on active duty with the sheriff’s office.
Released On Bond As Case Continues
Following his surrender and arrest at the Jackson County Jail, Myer was released on bond. Bond conditions were not immediately detailed in the information released by the KBI.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Myer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The KBI said the investigation is still ongoing. Additional updates may come as prosecutors review further evidence or as court proceedings move forward.
The arrest of a sheriff’s lieutenant has drawn attention because the case involves allegations connected to a traffic citation and a tribal officer.
While the charges filed are misdemeanors, the involvement of outside investigators and a special prosecutor shows the case is being handled with added review. For now, Myer has been released on bond, and the investigation remains active.
